ABOUT

Riga Queer Choir is a community-based LGBTQIA+ choir founded in Riga as both an artistic and social safe space. Emerging from the need for visibility, belonging, and collective voice in Latvia’s queer community, the choir brings together singers of diverse backgrounds, identities, and musical experience.

The choir’s artistic style bridges classical choral tradition with contemporary, experimental, and socially engaged repertoire. Alongside arrangements of classical and modern works, Riga Queer Choir actively explores queer narratives, political expression, and performative formats that expand what a choir can be - often collaborating with visual artists, directors, and other creatives.

Beyond concerts, the choir is deeply engaged in community and civic life. Its work frequently intersects with activism, public space interventions, and projects that amplify LGBTQIA+ voices in Latvia, including participatory performances and large-scale collective actions.

Riga Queer Choir sees choral singing not only as an art form, but as a tool for solidarity, visibility, and social change. At its core, the choir is built on care, courage, and collective expression - creating music that is emotionally resonant, socially grounded, and unapologetically queer.
