LEGATO Projects

LEGATO leads and supports a range of projects to connect European LGBTQ+ choirs, promote artistic ambition, share skills and grow our community.

LEGATO Networks

Our network now includes >160 choirs in 23 countries. We help choirs connect, swap ideas, and support each other.

Our 2024 Membership Survey gave us a clearer picture of what our choirs need, leading to tailored support and new connections between choirs facing similar challenges.

We have also established affinity groups for choirs with similar communities like our Youth Network (18–30) and FLINTA Network  (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, Agender).

LEGATO Academy

Our annual residential programme for choir leaders and members combines practical workshops and peer learning with opportunities to network and socialise.

Each year focuses on key themes such as building inclusive and resilient communities, developing artistic and leadership skills, supporting vocal health, strengthening organisational capacity, and exploring the role of choirs in activism and social change.

Various Voices

Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ choral festival, returning to Brussels in 2026 and Brighton in 2030. LEGATO oversees planning and legacy, including initiatives like the festival flag design competition to celebrate unity and continuity.

New Choir Nursery

Starting a choir can be tough—especially where LGBTQ+ visibility is under pressure. Our New Choir Nursery offers support and mentoring, drawing on the experience of established choirs.

Right now, we’re helping new groups in Budapest, working with the Hungarian LGBT Alliance and choirs in Poland, Estonia, and Germany. This practical support makes our vision of Singing for Equality real.

Choral Exchanges

Facilitated by LEGATO, Exchanges give choirs the chance to travel, perform together, and learn from each other. They’re about more than music—they build friendships and strengthen our shared identity across borders.

Recent exchanges have linked choirs from the UK, Finland, Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Ireland, and more, with activities ranging from joint concerts to skill-sharing workshops. These projects help choirs grow artistically while creating real connections within Europe’s LGBTQ+ choral community.

If you are looking for a choir matching your interests to get in touch with for e.g. joint concerts you can make a search here: Find a choir https://www.legato-choirs.com/find-a-choir

Swipe right on shared wisdom!

Swipe right to meet the right choir: Need advice? Struggling with rehearsal spaces, fundraising, recruiting younger singers, or avoiding burnout?

Our 2024 survey showed many choirs face the same challenges—and some have great solutions. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we’ll match you with choirs that can share their experience - think of it Grindr or HER for choir connection!

Whether you want to take part in themed online group sessions on specific topics or want to find your choir match to share and get knowledge, contact us via membership@legato-choirs.com if you want to be part of this experiment!

National Festivals and Associations Forum

The LEGATO National Festivals and Associations Forum (NFAF) brings together LGBTQ+ leaders of established national networks and festivals to share knowledge, create opportunities for collaboration and assist in the formation of choral networks in places where these do not currently exist.

There are already National Festivals or Associations in Germany, Italy, UK and the Nordic countries. In 2025, the organisers of Nordakkord 2024 Hamburg (a northern German festival), Cromatica 2025 Bologna (an Italian festival), and QueerTune 2025 Copenhagen (a Nordic festival), shared their learnings from the challenges they faced and what made their events successful.

In terms of national associations, LEGATO is pleased to have supported the formation of a new French LGBTQ+ choir network, Réseau Français des Chœurs LGBTQIA+, which brings together 16 choirs in that country.

Do you already run an LGBTQ+ choir festival or bring together LGBTQ+ choirs in your country? Or are you interested in setting either of these up? The LEGATO NFAF is for you.

You are cordially invited to join us - just get in touch!
