Gay Abandon is Yorkshire’s largest LGB choir and consists of about 65 lesbians, gay men and bisexuals who enjoy the shared passion of singing together.

 

Gay Abandon started in 1997 as the love child of Jane Edwardson (currently our Musical Director) and David Burnett.

 

Our first concert was in 1998 at Leeds University’s Cloth workers Hall. Since then we have performed throughout the UK and Europe, including concerts in Manchester, Birmingham, London, Berlin and Paris.

 

As well as big concerts, we sing at festivals and events, which have included performances at diverse venues such as The Royal Armories; Millennium Square Leeds; St Gemma’s Hospice; The Eiffel Tower and New Hall Prison.

 

We aim to welcome everybody who identifies as lesbian, gay or bisexual and can hold a tune.

 

We usually sing in four parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), sometimes accompanied by the piano, sometimes a cappella and occasionally with our house band.

 

Our major concerts are BSL interpreted and take place in wheelchair accessible venues wherever possible.
