Music for a Winter's Night
The Fourth Choir's traditional midwinter concert, with songs on the theme of the Christmas story, snow, and ice — all served with mulled cider and a mince pie!
The official start of the Christmas season is, as everyone knows, not the release of the John Lewis ad, but the Fourth Choir’s Winter Concert!
During the dark days of December, the world can seem a cruel and difficult place and, as human beings have done since the dawn of time, this is the time when we are drawn to congregate together in places of light, warmth and companionship, to refresh the spirit and seek comfort from the sound of voices raised in harmony.
In this year’s Music for a Winter’s Night, Jamie Powe, our Music Director, has crafted a beautiful, varied programme of Christmas music that can be enjoyed by people of every religion and none, with pieces by Joanna Marsh, Alexander Campkin and Dobrinka Tabakova, the ever-popular Carol of the Bells and much more.
The Fourth Choir is London's LGBTQ+ chamber choir for advanced singers. We focus on performing great choral works from early music to contemporary choral masterpieces. The choir was formed in September 2013, and our aim from the outset has been to represent the LGBTQ+ community on London's world-class classical music scene. Our debut album 'Songs of Ourselves' is out this autumn on Orchid Classics.
