“Hear us Loud and Clear” the pink choir concert

Project choir DIVERDOATSIE is organising the Pink Choir Concert Hear us loud and clear! in De Oosterpoort arts centre, Groningen on Friday 21 June, the evening before Roze Zaterdag [Pink Saturday, the Dutch national Pride event], which in 2024 is happening in Groningen.

In the second half of the concert, DIVERDOATSIE will give the European premiere of Harvey Milk: A Cantata, composed by the American composer Jack Curtis Dubowsky. The cantata is accompanied by a woodwind ensemble and solos will be sung by soloists from the various voice groups. The performance will be led by conductor Cobien Nieuwpoort.

Fellow Groningen choirs Homomannenkoor Zangzaad [Gay Men’s Choir Zangzaad] and Het

Gemengd Dameskoor [The Mixed Ladies’ Choir] will perform before the interval.

For this European premiere Jack Curtis Dubowsky, the piece’s composer, will be guest of honour, travelling especially from Los Angeles.

In addition to the premiere, DIVERDOATSIE will sing other music related to the 1978 murder of Harvey Milk and music that supports the queer movement. The programmes of Zangzaad and the Mixed Ladies’ Choir will also reflect this.

DIVERDOATSIE was founded as a project choir in the autumn of 2023 to celebrate our acquired sexual freedoms and gender diversity, by giving choir performances around Pink Saturday Groningen 2024.
